Abiding in Truth

It’s 8 am and I’m already exhausted. With a to-do list longer than the Niobrara river and a million thoughts running through my brain, I collapsed on the couch and said “no”.

Before I do another thing, I need to sit with my God and get re-calibrated. I had been running from meeting to meeting and phone call to phone call all week, that my designated time of prayer was constantly getting “rescheduled”.

So, I grabbed my bible, wrapped my favorite soft blanket around me and opened up to Psalm 91. I prayed to the Holy Spirit to guide my time of prayer and started reading.

“You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shade of the Almighty…” (Psalm 91:1)

I was immediately struck by the word “abide”. Potential definitions ran through my mind like, “stay”, “rest” and “hide”, but none of them felt quite right. I then began to imagine what it would be like to be under the shade of God.

I imagined being in a cave or like a covered bubble and working, knowing that there is danger all around me yet I am not concerned.

Praying through that led me to a definition of abide that makes sense to me- to operate under a sense of protection. To be hidden, but not afraid. I began to feel rested, secure and confident, knowing I didn’t have to worry about the future.

Looking for a new job or going through the interview process can be daunting and overwhelming.

For many of the women I work with, the whole process makes them question their self-worth as they receive rejection after rejection. Worries become a constant companion and the pressure builds with each day.

God doesn’t want us to operate under that weight. Instead, He invites us to come and abide with Him and know that He is taking care of everything.

I encourage you to read the rest of the psalm and to replace the words “he” or “him” with “you”:

“Because he clings to me I will deliver him; because he knows my name I will set him on high. He will call upon me and I will answer; I will be with him in distress; I will deliver him and give him honor. With length of days I will satisfy him and fill him with my saving power” (Psalm 91:14-16).

If you would like some guidance on how to revamp your resume or LinkedIn profile to increase your chances of a call-back, I’d love to work with you.
